With Love House Mouse Card

Morning Everyone. I must apologise for being so behind with my replies. I have read your comments and I am so happy to get them. Sadly I lost my little cat 'Smudge' a couple of days ago, she was nearly 23 years old so she did have a good life, but I am sure most of you will know that it's always hard to say goodbye. Here she is with her Mum (Mum is black n white).

I have always thought it would be nice if animals passed away peacefully, instead of us owners deciding when the time is right. We are never so lucky though are we, however little Smudge, went out to sit in the sun on the terrace and fell asleep. It was only in the afternoon when she didn't come for in for dinner that I found her. I was in my early 20's when she first arrived and that seems an age away now.

Anyway, everything has taken a back seat and so I am very behind with everything. But I did still want to try and get a post up for today.

This card is another House Mouse card, I know a lot of people like them and the cards are always well received. I chose a topper for this particular card ad built my design to fit the image. I made a gate fold card blank by taking a piece of Centura Pearl (Crafters Companion) an 8'' square with 3'' either side. The left hand side was to house my topper.

I created the cotton reels by hand and coloured them with my Alcohol markers. I wound embroidery thread around the middle reel to add a little extra, then pushed a needle through, I used 3D glue get to ensure it was completely secure. Then I traced around them leaving an extra 5 mm onto the right hand side of the card and cut around this leaving it attached to the card.

I added a layer of pink Co-ordinations card onto the card back and the left hand side and used the same card to mat my topper. I chose ble card to form the next layer, approximately 5 mm smaller than the pink. I then took my backing paper along with the blue and hand stitched the pieces together. I repeated this for the back also.

Finally I cut a hand stitched 'With Love' sentiment using a spellbinder die and layered onto the same blue card stock. Finally I assembled my card. I hope you like what I have shared today. Exciting things happening in the week, so I will hope to share it very soon.

Thank you so much for visiting today and I hope you will be back very soon. Take care xx

  1. So very sorry to hear about Smudge. I have had animals of various sizes around me most of my life and understand very much how they leave a hole in your life and heart when they leave, however that may be. Sounds like falling asleep in the sun could be one of the better ways to go,if there is such a thing.
Your card as ever is beautiful. The fact that you have drawn and coloured the cotton reels is just amazing, they look so much as if they came with the House Mouse range.
Thank you for sharing Nick and you should never apologise for these things that happen in life. If you don't comment or miss a post so be it.
    Sleep well Smudge.

    1. I think it was a lovely way to go, she had a wonderful but eventful life over the years. She has been the most expensive animal ever over the years. When she was 3, she was run over and the vet wanted to put her to sleep, she did give the option of removing a leg, but I chose to have her back leg removed instead. That was nearly 20 years ago. I think it made it harder as she had been around of over half of my life and it's hard to imagine her not there. Still at least I didn't have to choose when was best for her. It's certainly the way I want to go....Take care and thank you so much xx

    1. Thank you so much Janet, At least she went peacefully and I didn't have to make any decision. There's not much worse than having to decide when is the right time. When I lost my Lab Leo at Christmas, I had to and I almost felt like I had let him down, even though I knew it was best for him and didn't want hime to suffer

Love your card, loads of dimension and interesting touches - you don't see so much House Mouse around now and they are adorable.

    1. Thank you so much Anne, It was a shock but like you say the most wonderful way to go. She never liked the vet and I am so pleased that I didn't have to cause her any stress or make the decision come to that. I am exactly like you I would love to just drift off. Too many people suffer in life, so it seems only fair that passing should be a peaceful. Thank you so much for leaving this lovely comment Take care xx
